Pipe Sealant Source-Aware Candidate Screen - Thread Sealant Review
Review pipe-thread sealant candidates while product, code, leak-test, oxygen-service, and qualified-review gaps stay visible
Free pipe sealant review screen for plumbers, pipefitters, maintenance technicians, and facility engineers. Enter the pipe material, fluid type, pressure category, temperature category, and connection type to screen source-aware candidate prompts. It is not a product selector, code approval, leak-test acceptance, or safe-to-pressurize decision.
The app compares local prompts for PTFE tape, gas-marked PTFE tape, pipe dope, plastic-compatible paste, anaerobic metal-thread sealants, and high-temperature paste. Oxygen service is blocked from standard recommendations and must be resolved with oxygen-cleaned components, approved product documentation, supplier/site safety review, and qualified review.

-
Select Pipe Material
Choose the material category: carbon steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, PVC, CPVC, cast iron, or galvanized. The material row is a compatibility prompt only; exact product and fitting manufacturer instructions still control.
-
Select Fluid Service
Choose the service category such as water, natural gas, propane, compressed air, steam, oil/fuel, chemical, or oxygen. Gas, potable-water, LP-gas, process, and oxygen services require current source documentation and qualified review.
-
Choose Pressure and Temperature Prompts
Select broad pressure and temperature categories. These prompts do not validate pressure rating, thread engagement, cure time, thermal cycling, product listing, or pressure-test timing.
-
Select Connection Type
Choose NPT, NPTF, BSPT, BSPP, flare, compression, grooved, solvent-cement, or push-fit. Non-threaded or mechanical-seal connections are shown as manufacturer-instruction gaps rather than thread-sealant recommendations.
-
Review Candidate Prompts
Review any candidate rows and warnings, then verify the exact product label, current data sheet, listing, code basis, utility/owner requirement, leak-test method, and AHJ or qualified reviewer before use.
Built For
- Plumbers documenting source gaps before reviewing potable-water or gas-thread sealant products
- Industrial pipefitters comparing local prompt rows before checking steam, air, oil, or process-piping documentation
- Maintenance technicians flagging product, service, leak-test, and safe-work questions before threaded-joint repair
- HVAC technicians separating gas-piping review from refrigerant, flare, braze, or press-fitting decisions
- Facility engineers building maintenance storeroom review lists that still require current manufacturer approval
- Fire-protection and process-piping teams identifying where adopted code, AHJ, and product listing review is required
- Apprentices learning why connection type, service, material, and product label must be checked together
- Homeowners preparing questions for a qualified plumber or gas fitter instead of treating the app as approval
Features & Capabilities
Material Compatibility Prompts
Flags review areas such as plastic compatibility, stainless galling, potable-water listing, fuel-gas marking, and oxygen-service contamination controls without certifying any product.
Code and Listing Source Warnings
Keeps NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, NFPA 54, NFPA 58, IFGC, ASME B31.3, CGA G-4.1, utility, owner, and AHJ gaps visible instead of presenting a pass/fail code answer.
Pressure and Temperature Categories
Uses broad screening categories only. Exact pressure-temperature rating, cure time, vibration, thermal cycling, chemical compatibility, and pressure-test timing require product documentation.
Connection-Type Boundary
Separates tapered thread prompts from flare, compression, grooved, solvent-cement, press, and push-fit connections where manufacturer instructions and sealing surfaces control.
Oxygen-Service Block
Blocks standard oxygen-service recommendations and directs the review to oxygen-cleaned components, documented oxygen compatibility, supplier/site safety review, and qualified approval outside the app.
Export With Warnings
Export a report or PDF that carries candidate prompts, source pointers, assumptions, residual gaps, and warnings for follow-up review.
Assumptions
- Thread, material, service, pressure, and temperature are user-selected categories, not measured or certified conditions
- Candidate rows are representative prompts and are not complete product catalogs or approval matrices
- Temperature and pressure ranges are broad screening categories, not specific manufacturer part-number ratings
- Potable-water, gas, LP-gas, process, oxygen, and medical-gas acceptance requires exact current source documentation
- Anaerobic, tape, and paste behavior depends on cleanliness, product chemistry, cure time, fitting material, and service conditions
Limitations
- Candidate prompts are brand-agnostic and do not replace current product label, PDS/TDS/SDS, listing, or manufacturer confirmation
- Chemical compatibility for specialty chemicals, acids, caustics, and solvents requires manufacturer-specific resistance charts
- Does not cover gasket selection for flanged connections, grooved couplings, or compression fittings
- Oxygen service is blocked from standard recommendations and remains outside product approval scope
- Medical gas, high-purity gas, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, nuclear, and regulated specialty piping requirements are not addressed
- Thread engagement torque values are not provided; over-tightening plastic threads is a common failure mode
- Vibration, cryogenic service, thermal cycling, pressure-test timing, and safe-to-pressurize decisions require qualified review
